ONOLICIOUS POG
ONOLICIOUS POG
Every time I visit Hawaii, it’s to see one of my dearest friends and her husband and kids; the surrounds are just the added bonus. For this reason, my experiences aren’t just Waikiki, North Shore, and Haleiwa. I get the local knowledge.
My most recent trip, the staff from a local haunt, Rise & Shine Cafe in Mililani, told me I should make a sherbet using POG. “What is POG?” you query. It’s arguably the most popular non-alcoholic beverage in the islands. It’s passion fruit-orange-guava juice. I was able to combine equal parts guava and passion fruit purées and orange juice to make a batch.
WOW! Just… WOW! It’s a little bit of Hawaiian magic. And so refreshing. Ono is Hawaiian for delicious or tasty; onolicious means it’s out-of-sight delicious. You can sit on your porch and pretend the Pacific Ocean is just over that ridge. My friends and the staff at R&S gave it their stamp of approval. Pairs well with Lilikoi, Naranja, Claireberry, and Mango.
Ingredients: guava, orange juice, passion fruit, sugar, water, heavy cream (heavy cream, skim milk, carrageenan), lemon juice, kosher salt
